Duffy Assembly

Yesterday we had our Duffy Assembly where we heard some inspirational advice from the chosen role model Tarsh encouraging kids to be themselves and appreciate and be proud of their differences because that is what makes them unique.
Students were very lucky to receive 2 Duffy books each which I am sure they will voraciously read these holidays.

Tarsh is a mum of 4, wife to 1. Studied Health Science straight out of school, then decided it wasn’t for her. Dabbled in finance for a few years, before biting the bullet and studying broadcasting, graduated from the NZ Radio Training School with a diploma in Broadcasting. She is the on-field host at the Vodafone Warriors home games and you can catch her on air as a third of the Full Phat Breakfast on Flava (95.8 Auckland) between 6am-10am.

Congratulations Liseti!

Big Congratulations to Liseti for passing Level 9 in Lexia - keep up the hared work, you are doing awesome!!

Our last session of Garden to Table for Term 1

Life Vest Inside - Kindness Boomerang - "One Day"

This video is a great example of 'thinking of others' and 'paying it forward' where you not only appreciate the good that is done for you but you also pay it forward by showing kindness to others'.

Your challenge is to take note of the kind things others do for you then make sure you 'pay it forward' and do kind things for others...

Manaakitanga (hospitality/empathy) is our focus this term...

We discussed how we show care and concern to others and here are some of our ideas.

We also watched a short video about caring. Take a look!

Holes - Louis Sachar

This term we have been reading Louis Sachar's book - Holes.
Image result for Holes book

We had a sneak peak at the movie trailer too to see if how we had imagined the characters were how they looked in the movie - definitely some differences.
Here is a link to a site with some behind-the-scene photo's and the movie trailer.

How have you liked the book so far Room 22? Would you recommend it to our blog visitors?
Any suggestions for books to read as a class next term? Post your ideas in the comment section.

Mrs O's top tip: Always read the book first before seeing the movie! When reading you naturally build up mental imagery of how the characters/scenery look, sound and act. Once you see the movie you will only be able to see the actors in that role - you cheat your mind of the chance to build your own imagery. And anyway the book is ALWAYS better!

Batter up!

This term we have been doing Softball in P.E. Big thanks to Whaea Puhi and Elijah for being our experts with this and sharing their wealth of knowledge on the sport.
It has been lots of fun and we have seen some real development in everybody's catching, throwing, batting and fielding skills. Some great sportsmanship and teamwork shown too.

Congratulations to our recent certificate winners Poonam and Anthony!

Keep up the great work guys. You're a real asset to Room 22 ODS :)

Our school focus for the last 2 weeks of term 1 is 'Be Persistent'.
